I just took a giant bite of these and I do think they may the best thing I've ever made! I am seriously in danger of eating the whole pan by myself. This is not good. But these are so good! It's a horrible predicament!
Chocolate Buttermilk Brownies with Chocolate Buttermilk Icing
Ingredients
Brownies
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 cups sugar (I used raw)
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 cup butter
- 1 cup water
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder (I used Hershey's)
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup butttermilk (I used the lowfat)
- 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
Icing
- 1/4 cup butter
- 3 Tbsp buttermilk
- 3 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 1/4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Grease a 13x9x2 inch baking pan and set aside
- In medium mixing bowl, stir together flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt and set aside
- In medium saucepan, combine butter and water and heat over medium heat
- Once butter is melted, add cocoa powder and stir to combine
- Continue stirring over medium heat until mixture boils
- Pour butter/cocoa mixture into flour mixture and beat with mixer on medium speed until combined
- Add eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each
- Add buttermilk and vanilla and beat for 1 minute on medium speed
- Pour batter into prepared baking dish and bake for 32 minutes (or until it passes the toothpick test)
- While brownies cook, begin preparing icing
- In medium saucepan, combine butter and buttermilk and heat over medium heat
- Once butter melts, add cocoa powder and stir to combine
- Heat butter/cocoa mixture over medium heat until boiling
- Remove from heat and add vanilla and powdered sugar
- Beat with icing with mixer until smooth and creamy
- When brownies are done baking, remove pan from oven and place on wire rack to cool
- Pour icing over hot brownies and smooth to cover evenly
- Allow brownies to finish cooling over wire rack and serve
